Selling your used textbooks
couldn't be easier. Just follow the instructions below and you'll
be on your way!

The first thing you need to
do is create an account with the Book Exchange. This will allow you
to have easy access to all your ads, and give you the ability to change
information whenever it is necessary.
We suggest that you use a
user name and password that will be easy for you to remember.

Once you have done this, you
need to fill out our "Book Seller Form." This form
includes information on the book such as, Book Title, Author
Name, ISBN, Publisher, Edition Number, and
Condition of the book. We also require that you tell us what
class the book is used for, including Department Name and Course
Number. Lastly, you need to enter an Asking Price, which
is how much you are selling your book for.
We've included a sample book,
to help simplify the process. It is called "Creating a Book
Exchange in just 215 days!"

Obviously, "Creating
a Book Exchange in just 215 days!" would be the "Book
Title," but the rest may not be as obvious.
This book has
two authors, Lawrence Love and April Tellez. To make things
easier, we broke down the Author Name into two separate lines, "Author's
Last Name" and "Author's First Name." Now
the question is, what should you do if there are multiple authors?
In order to
have some structure in the search process, we've created some guidelines
for everyone to follow. One such condition is that we ask that you use
ONLY the first author listed, regardless if there are two authors
or twenty. We only need the FIRST author that is listed!
In this case,
the author you would enter is "Lawrence Love". "Love"
would be entered as the "Author's Last Name" and "Lawrence"
would be entered as the "Author's First Name."
The ISBN,
or International Standard Book Number, can usually be found on the back
of the book, listed next to the UPC bar-code.

In this case,
the ISBN is 0-7645-0624-2 (it's the one circled in red,
with a big arrow pointing at it). Notice that the ISBN has the letters
"ISBN" next to it. There are a lot of numbers on the back,
but we only need the ones labeled as "ISBN."
It is very important
that you include the ISBN when you sell a book. Each ISBN is unique
to each book, and helps buyers to make sure it's the book they're looking
for.
If the ISBN
is not listed on the back, or if it is no longer readable, you can find
it inside the book, usually within the first few pages.

Again, it is
circled in red. Also on this page, you
can find the "Publisher" of the book. In this case,
the Publisher is "IDG Books Worldwide, Inc."
As for the "Edition
Number," this book happens to be a new book, so it is a "First
Edition," and nothing is listed. If, for instance, this book
had received recent additions, it may have been a Second Edition, and
that would be printed here on this page, and can usually be found on
other parts of the book, such as the cover or the spine.
In our example,
you would enter "First" as the "Edition Number."
You could also enter "1999" which is the year the book
was published.
We need information
about the class that the book is for. If you provide the proper information,
it will help us connect you with a student who may be interested in
buying your book! Let's say that this book, "Creating a Book
Exchange in just 215 days!" is a book that is required for
CIS 461. On the Book Seller form, you would enter "CIS"
as the "Department" and "461" as the
"Course Number."
The last things
we need are the "Condition of the Book" and your "Asking
Price."
The "Condition
of the Book" can, at times, be difficult to quantify. It all
has a lot to do with your own personal opinion of what a book should
look like. To help make things easier, we've narrowed it down to four
options: "Like New", "Good", "Fair",
"Worn", and "See Comments."
I would expect
a book that is labeled as "Like New" to be in very
good condition without highlighting and/or writing. If the book
is in good condition, but has a minimal amount of highlighting and/or
writing, I would consider the book to be in "Good"
condition. If the book has a lot of highlighting and/or writing, but
the cover and pages are still in good shape, I would consider the book
to be in "Fair" condition. If the book has obviously
been through a lot, inside and out, but is still readable, I'd call
it "Worn"
BE HONEST!
If you say the book is "Like New" but it really looks
like it's been accidentally thrown in the washing machine, the buyer
has every right to decide not to buy the book from you. You will have
wasted their time AND your own!
Though the "Asking
Price" is completely up to you, obviously, if it is too high,
you may have problems selling it. In our example, "Creating a Book
Exchange in just 14 days!" originally sold for $24.99. Depending
on the condition of the book, you may want to sell your copy for around
$15.00 - 20.00. On the form, you can enter anything you want, as
long as it's a number! Please DO NOT enter "Negotiable."
Let's just accept the notion that all book prices are negotiable, and
just enter an actual number. It can be "15.00", it
can be "20.00", you can even put "15.00 - 20.00,"
just make sure it's a number! This way, buyers will be able to decide
on whether or not to try contacting you.
Notice that
the dollar sign ($) is not needed.

Double check youe entries,
and If everything is just how you want it, then complete your ad by
clicking on the "Submit Ad" button.
Now you're done! Just sit
back, relax, and wait for the phone to ring!
