Purpose
The Bronco Events and Activities Team (BEAT) exists to enhance student life at Cal Poly Pomona. Bringing quality live entertainment to campus and maintaining a fun learning atmosphere are some things the BEAT is known for, but there is much more to how the team operates. Guided by the ASI motto, "students serving students," BEAT evaluates student needs and creates strategies for satisfying them.
As the face of ASI and representatives of the student population, the BEAT has the ongoing responsibility of creating programs that facilitate growth and learning for students while staying current with popular trends.
Co-sponsorships
The Bronco Events and Activities Team (BEAT) creates programs through ASI but also co-sponsors other events with various campus organizations. In the past, BEAT has worked with the Office of Student Life and Cultural Centers, The Wellness Center, the Center for Community Service-Learning, and many others. BEAT seeks to assist different groups with their events through promoting, planning, logistics organization, and more. If you are a member of an organization and would like BEAT to take part in your event, contact the team today at (909) 869-4455.

Members
The complete BEAT team consists of 12 student leaders who lead their own committees as individual chairs and 1 Secretary of Programs and Services who oversees the chairs. They are all student volunteers who are committed to serving their peers. Becoming a Member Each student applies for the chair positions, goes through an interview process and becomes appointed. The BEAT continues to interview applicants until all positions are filled. |

Chair Descriptions
Arts and Lectures
The Arts and Lectures Chair is committed to organizing lectures pertaining to current world or local issues through the selection of speakers with diverse viewpoints. This Chair is not limited to lectures: working with the Cal Poly Pomona Downtown Center and the Bronco Art Program for art events is another aspect of being the Arts and Lectures Chair.
Broadcasting
The Broadcasting Chair manages the Internet radio station, video streams and podcasts. As part of ASI Live, broadcasting serves to enhance the organization's communication to more audiences through live media. Missed a Noon Hour Concert or want to hear the interview with the band? Download sound and video clips, courtesy of Bronco Broadcasting and ASI Live, part of the ASI Family.
Concerts
The two Concerts Chairs are responsible for providing musical entertainment at various time slots for you and the campus community to enjoy. At the Bronco Student Center or University Park, bands play during Noon Hour as part of the Noon Hour Concert Series. Night Concerts and festivals are other related events to look forward to.
Films
Educational, funny, or dramatic- the Films Chair has it covered. Take a break and enjoy a free movie in a cozy theater room in the BSC or on the grass at University Park in the evening. Your popcorn and candy are waiting. Indoor Recreation The Indoor Recreation Chair has traditionally organized Nite Owl and Midnight Madness at the end of each quarter to provide study rooms, free hot dogs, beverages and karaoke. Each quarter the Indoor Recreation and Comedy chair brings different activities: Texas Hold 'Em, Mario Kart tournaments and comedians to provoke laughter.Operations With BEAT programming new events on a regular basis, the office gets a little hectic. The Office Logistics Chair keeps the team organized and assists the Secretary of Programs and Services with the weekly agenda and other meeting necessities. |
Outdoor Recreation Many events take place in the BSC, but the Outdoor Recreation Chair will take events beyond the usual venue. Organizing an adventure is made easier by the outdoor recreation and trips chair. There are no flakers here. Publicity The Publicity Chair is dedicated to keep you informed about everything BEAT-related with the help of Gas Creative Group and Bronco Broadcasting. Creating banners, assisting with the distribution of posters on stakes, decorating walkways with chalk messages, messages and updating the MySpace page are some of the duties the Publicity Chair is responsible for. Look out for the BEAT logo on publicity items across campus. Service and Learning BEAT is dedicated to serving the campus and the community. The Service and Learning Chair brings people together for community activities, volunteer work and educational workshops. Special Events The Special Events Chairs create programs that appeal to the masses and involve the participation of everyone in attendance. For the past three years, some special events have included Session [A], a monthly hip-hop event incorporating music, competitions, and learning sessions and video game tournaments such as Halo and Madden. An Example of the Process Joaquin, wakes up early for his morning jog on University Drive. As he makes it up the hill, an idea pops into his head. He thinks to himself, "What if we have a 5K Run/Walk on campus for anyone to join?" With the help of his friends at the Bronco Fitness Center, he does some research about organizing such an event. He writes a proposal and presents it at a meeting to their advisors and to BEAT. He gets the green light and the preparation begins. Weeks later the run is a success. |
